How to fix Mac Startup Disk?

Who wants to see a message saying, "Your startup is almost full?' A full startup disk is something that every Mac user will experience, but luckily this problem has many solutions.

What is a startup disk?

A startup disk is a volume or partition of drive that contains a usable operating system. Mac hard drive consists of discs, each of the disk has your Mac data on it, it has your applications, operating system, etc. Many of the Mac users have only one disk, but users of power may have two or more. A Mac with only one hard disk will have a hard drive of 500 GB.

· It will be having only one "Disk" on it, so all 500 GB of storage is on that disk.

· The disk has an operating system and user data

· Since there is only one disk, this is your startup disk: of all 500 GB.

· A Mac with two disks will have storage divided among them. The drive of Mac with OS on it is startup disk while another drive is used just for storage. It is possible to have many starts up disks, but most Macs will have just one.

How much is full too full?

A start up a drive that is almost full not only of the current problems only because you are running short of storage space. It also impacts the performance of your device. Not sufficient storage space fastly degrades how fast can your Mac startup.

Back up before you proceed

It is a good idea to point out that some files are there that should never be removed. Most of them are related to the Operating system. There are some more files as well like our favorite apps, media files, etc. before you begin to search or remove additional data. Perform a 'current backup' of all your files.

Which files to remove?

The operating system of Mac can present an overview of what sort of files are taking up the most space on Mac. We can access the storage graph through two methods.

OS X Mavericks and earlier:

· From the menu of Apple, select About This Mac

· In the About This Mac window, Press the More Info button

· The About This Mac window will scatter and display no of tabs in the toolbar. Click the item labeled as Storage.

OS X Yosemite through current versions of macOS:

· Use the menu of Apple to select About this Mac.

· In About This Mac screen, select storage item from windows toolbar.

Storage Graph

The storage graph will display all currently attached storage devices with Mac's startup disk listed first. The graph for each of the storage device will display the amount of space each file is taking up on the disk. Storing through your apps and deleting those not in use may help in increasing the free space.
